Compare and contrast between public and private education Essay Example for Free
Compare and contrast between public and private education EssaySince 1983 public education has been an issue in America. The system of rules has been constantly changing forevery year with reforms. This constant change has been driven by the American plentys perception that education has declined and something should be done about it. First there was an increased emphasis on basic skills, making school years longer and more graduation requirements.Second, many another(prenominal) began focusing on increasing teachers professionalism. Third, they began restructuring many things such as how the schools were organized and how the school day was structured etc. Now today the most of the American people consider that not enough coin is given to public schooling. They associate academic improvement with the money the school is funded. But I believe otherwise. Spending more on education will not improve academic success but diverse teaching methods will. Public education sustenan ce is at an all time high in America. There is no problem with the funding for schools. There is more of a problem on how the money is distributed. To truly understand the problems of education in America,The United States prides itself on its public education system making it a core value of many families. The take of education a person has will influence their career achievements. Americans expect their public system of education to provide a solid curriculum. Most of the people in the United States place their trust in the public school system in which they support through taxes. This trust although is contradicted by the public system of educations current shape.Much of the schools in the United States are either deteriorating, or failing all together. The drawbacks of public education create an ingrown environment for student learning. Many people think public school can dip their hands into the public treasury for funding if they are ever in need of money however many schools do not qualify to get these funds. The disparate funding for public schools and between states and within metropolitan areas has turned some public schools into meccas for affluent students and others into decaying infrastructures with overcrowded classrooms and soaring drop-out rates (

Soft drink Essay Example for Free
Soft drink EssayThe use of energy drinks in the United States has increase more than the controversial consumption of regular sodas. According to Coca-Cola executives, profits from energy products since 2005 through 2008 will total $540 one million million million, compared with $210 million for regular soft drinks, $130 million for bottled irrigate and $290 million for sports drinks (Warner). So what is it or so this drinks that make them more popular than our pure and vital water? The answer is very simple our hectic lifestyles. straightaways society is filled with exhaustion and high stress levels m both people rely on energy drinks to give them that second wind, which helps them stay stir up through a test, and even revive them for a party. According to Simmons Research, thirty-one share of teenagers in the United States say they drink energy drinks on a regular basis. People use energy drinks to boost their energy so they can be able to perform better, that because en ergy drinks contain ingredients that deterioration the human body they should be banned all over the world. There are some factors that increase the popularity of energy drinks. For example the easy to grab expression in which they are packed. The small container makes it quick to drink down, and the smaller scale gives the impression that the contents are more concentrated, which attracts the consumer even more. The color of the energy drinks is some other reason for their popularity a combination of bright and vivid colors such as acidic greens and yellows, black and red suggest a brain of energy and high performance. The mystery scag in energy drinks is another reason why these drinks are consumed in excess. Compared to a typical juice offering, in that respect is little or nothing about energy drink packaging to tell the consumer what the product tastes like. Instead, the graphic emphasis is more on the consumers sensibilities and attitude than flavor or thirst (Patterns). I t is pathetic to see how big companies and manufacturers of these products use the ignorance and lack of knowledge of people to make a profit. Unfortunately we cannot victimize ourselves and blame everything on them.We are responsible for what we do and I believe that we should do some research before we buy a product that is obviously not instinctive at all. Energy drinks are made up of caffeine, taurine, guarana, ginseng, ginkgo, ephedrine, B vitamins and many other sugars. Caffeine is one of the most active ingredients in energy drinks it is a psychoactive substance found in the beans, leaves and fruit of over 60 plants it stimulates the nervous and cardiovascular system. Taurine is an amino acid that our body naturally produces, but in energy drinks the taurine is a synthetic element. It helps regulate heartbeat, muscle contractions, and energy levels. Usually our body makes enough so that we dont demand to supplement. Guarana is derived from South America plants and it contain s approximately three times more caffeine than coffee beans. It stimulates the central nervous system, cardiac muscle, as well as the respitarory system. B vitamins help convert sugar to energy. Ginseng is an herbal stimulant apply to cure, from stress to poor memory to diabetes. Gingko is another herbal stimulant that is used to treat memory loss, headaches, ringing in the ears and depression.Ephedrine is a stimulant, used as a decongestant in treatments of asthma. The chemical structure is similar to amphetamines and methamphetamines. This stimulant is found in weight loss pills, it speeds up metabolism by causing energy that is acquired from food to burn faster. These ingredients do not sound harmful at all. galore(postnominal) of them are natural and even beneficial for our health. So why have energy drinks been banned in a few countries? Lets me now introduce to you the shun sides of all these ingredients.According to Roland Griffiths, a professor in behavioral biology, the amount of caffeine that is necessary to produce dependency and withdrawal symptoms is about 100 milligrams a day. A can of energy drink has 80 to 160 milligrams (Warner). Some of the side effects that the use of caffeine creates are dependency, diarrhea, copious urination and headaches. It besides increases the heart rate, blood flow, respiratory rate, and metabolic rate for several hours. Caffeine causes anxiety, irritability, high sensitivity to noise, and self-mutilations.There are four caffeine-induced psychiatric disorders recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition caffeine-induce anxiety disorder, caffeine-induced sleep disorder, and caffeine-related disorder not otherwise specified (NOS). Caffeine is also associated with a high risk of developing Parkinsons disease in men. The side-effects that taurine causes are almost the same as caffeine, but many people rent that it kills your heart, since it is found in the central nervous s ystem, skeletal and is more heavily concentrated in heart tissues and the brain.Taurine found in energy drinks is a synthetic vitamin that does not perform the same functions in the human body as vitamins found naturally in whole food nutrients would. These vitamins actually beat the body of other nutrients, and overstretch your kidneys before being excreted through the urine. The side effects of Ginseng are nervousness, insomnia, and diarrhea. The effects of ginkgo are restlessness, upset stomach, diarrhea, and vomiting. A soft drink usually has 19 to 25 grams of sugar in each eight-ounce serving. Energy drinks on average contain more than this.Red Bull, for example, contains 27 grams of sugar per serving of 250 milliliters (a little over eight ounces). This can be very dangerous, for an overload of sugar can lead to gastric emptying. This often results in nausea and vomiting. As it was stated above each of the ingredients that a energy drink contain have several and powerful side effects when taken separately, imagine how dangerous they be can when taken all at the same time. People are using energy drinks as an alternate for fitting rest, nutrition, and exercise like the spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, Roberta Anding said (Ellis). Many health problems can develop from the lack of proper rest like a weaken immune system, depression, high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes. The best substitute of energy drinks is water. Our body is 55 to 75 percent made out of water and its benefits are countless. body of water improves energy, increases mental and physical performance, removes toxins and waste products from the body, keeps the skin healthy and glowing, helps to lose weight, reduces headaches and dizziness, helps digestion, helps the heart work better, reduces stress, and prevents urinary tract infections by flushing out impurities from the body. Many people that do not like to drink water can replace the energy drinks with natural ju ices such as orange which are 87 percent water or by eating cucumbers which are 95 percent water. Milk is another liquid that can replace energy drinks. Milk is our first microbe of nutrition when we are born we are fed with this liquid before he can digest other food. Milk is made out of pure fat, protein, calcium and vitamin C. Saturated fat provides the building blocks for cell membranes and it also acts as a carrier for vitamins A, D, E and K.This fat makes the lungs healthier, prevents stroke, and protects kidneys from diseases. Calcium makes up 70 percent of the bone weight and gives it strength and rigidity. Vitamin C helps the body produce a basic component of connective tissues called collagen. Collagen is an important element in the blood watercraft walls, gums, and bones. Vitamin C functions as an antioxidant, it helps boost immune function protects against cancer, cataracts, deterioration of the retina, and other chronic diseases.Nowadays we live in a society that is a lways on the go and we are always looking for ways to get more energy to be able to get through school, work or any other duties that we may have. But putting our lives in danger by consuming energy drinks is not worth it. The government should definitely do something about it instead of letting some people get rich by the ignorance and lack of knowledge of most of the people that consume these harmful drinks. Safety Management Plan For Night Time Work Construction Essay
Safety Management Plan For Night Time Work Construction EssayIn the previous in Chapter 1, the overview of this study was explained ab surface and the line was identified. Then from the overview, the aims of the study be to explore the challenges faced in construction site during shadow epoch, to delineate the different factors associated with safety during nighttimetime- cartridge holder construction. Through the chapter, the elaborations of the topic are turn overly described. The clarification of the sub-topic will studies about the night time construction, intendning aspect, and the impact of night-time construction operations on safety, quality, environmental factors, and productivity.2.2 Overview of Night lap up2.2.1 explanation of Night field of studyAccording to Derek Simpson (2005), night work is defined as a 7 hour period which includes that between midnight and 5am, usually 11pm to 6am. Anyone who normally industrial plant at least 3 hours of their working da y during this night period is classed as a night worker. Night workers should not work more than an sightly of 8 hours in every 24. Where such work involves any special hazards or heavy physical or mental strain the 8 hours edge applies to each 24 hour period, not an average 8 hours over the reference period.According to the North Region Construction Night Work usher (2007), night work is the most difficult and challenging time for the contractor to work to meet his contractual obligations and therefore the most difficult time for the tester to en legitimate the work meets the standards and takes of quality while also ensuring that everything is done safely.2.2.2 Safety Management Plan for Night time WorkA focal point plan should be well documented and structured so that both employers and employees pile benefits from its use. The following are recommended components of a safety management plan for night time works(Site personnel dutyIt should be determined and stated clearl y in the safety management plan the responsibility of each individual at construction site for night time works. Project Manager, Engineers, Designers, Safety Officer and Site Supervisors as well as workers each have their specific responsibility to make confident(predicate) the highest level of priority are given towards safety and health issues.Permission to work at nightPermission to work at night should be obtained from the relevant authority before construction works at night is carried out. Employers should submit their application for work permit to Local government Authority and it is adviscapable to follow all requirements enforced by the authority prior to executing night time construction works. It is also recommended to notify the close police station, BOMBA, hospitals or clinics so that they can prepare accordingly in case of an emergency. It is also recommended that night work approved by the local regimen be informed to the residents/occupants of the surrounding n eighbourhood.Inventory preparation for safety equipmentsBefore night works are carried out, check the inventory of safety equipment to make sure they are sufficiently available, appropriate, and in good working condition. Purchase sufficient new safety equipment for a new construction project or to kick the bucket existing inventory. Equipments such as retro-reflective signage, barriers, retro reflective tapes and lighting equipment are some example of safety equipment that should be provided for night time construction works. worldly and Machine movement / coordinationEmployers should be aware that material and form movement that is not well supervised could potentially cause serious injury and constipation to workers and properties.House writeingAccidents can occur as a result of poor housekeeping. Hazards at construction site are the same for both day and night metamorphose while the bumpinesss of injury are much high(prenominal) during night works because of the inherent poor illumination. It is essential that the workplace is kept clean and good to ensure safety and prevent accidents.Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR)One of the most important elements to number before work at night is carried out is the EPR specifically for night time environment. A well established EPR can help both employer and employees to prepare response and recover should a disaster occurs. prevalent safetyWhen construction works involves public area, it is important to make sure the safety of the public. Consider the following when planning for night time work identify the hazards for example construction vehicle movement or too much glare from lighting equipment and plan for vehicular movement to not interrupt dot hours and make sure adequate supervision is provided for such movement.Provide sufficient signage to warn the public and put barriers at a safe distance to keep the public away.Set up a safe walk ways where it is unavoidable to work near or in public vi cinity.Ar lay out loud equipments or machinery at farthest point from the public or adopt an engineering control to reduce the noise. When overhead crane is operating near the public, clear off the area and make sure adequate supervision is in place.Schedule for daily cleaning of the adjacent public road and filling up holes as well as uneven surfaces.Working hours manpower arrangementEmployers should identify at which construction phase the need for night time work is required. Consider the following when planning for night time work arrange a special team to work at night and allow for shift rotation and inform workers of the special hazards and risks at night to allow effective adaptation with the work environment. It is also recommended to send workers for health screening to make sure the workers are fit to work at night. Allowing an unfit worker to work at night will endanger the worker and other worker in the same work area.2.3 Overview of Night-time constructionAccording to the Guidelines for Construction Activities at Night (1999), there is an increasing demand for performing construction of highways and buildings at night, especially in the urban areas to reduce conflict between the public and the stakeholders of the projects. This approach can be beneficial in particular, for reducing traffic disruptions and meeting the completion deadlines. However, contractors should consider the enlarged safety risk at the workplace when conducting any construction activities at night.2.3.1 Planning of construction work at nightWorking during night time by its very nature is dangerous. Workers are exposed to many high risk unsafe working conditions at construction site. Common troubles that strength occur are poor visibility in the working environment, working in a drowsy condition, and communication problems with the day shift. This could contribute to other work related safety and health problems for example drug and alcohol abuse, psychological problems, an d physiological problems. (Shane J.S., 2012).Therefore, it is very important to plan any works for night time is engaged. Employers need to plan before hand the workforce required, special arrangement for safety provision such as sufficient work area lighting, retro-reflective clothing, newsbreak lights on equipments or structures and retro-reflective tape at work area surroundings.2.3.2 Factors modifying night time workIn order to decide when to conduct night time work, factors (pa draweters) affecting night time work must be identified. The following factors were identified (Douglas K.D., 2003) attemptIlluminationNuisancesProductivityCostSafety jeopardyNight time construction introduces numerous risks to a construction project. One clear set of examples is driver and worker fatigue and reduced visibility, which are factors that could increase safety risks. Other major factors contributing to the risks of night time work are merciful factors such as sleep, stress, work, social o r domestic issues, and psychological characteristics, such as appetite and safety. Additional factors associated with the risks of night time construction work zones are reduced work space for machinery and equipment movement, inadequate lighting, high revivify of traffic during the night, and long working hours (12 to 14 hours). (Shane J.S., 2012). try management processThe best way to address night time construction work-zone risks and hazards is by means of risk management courses. It is suggested that agencies and contractors begin their risk management processes early and review the risk management program carefully prior to beginning night time work. Risk management is the term used to describe a sequence of analysis and management activities focused on identifying and creating a response to risks and, in the case of night time construction, to project-specific risks (Shane J.S., 2012). Various organizations use very similar steps, but slightly different terms, to describe their risk management approach. These are the important risk management steps1. Risk identification.2. Risk assessment/analysis.3. Risk mitigation and planning.4. Risk allocation.5. Risk monitoring and control.Risk identification is the process of determining which risks might affect the project and documenting their characteristics using tools such as brainstorming and checklists.Risk assessment/analysis involves the quantitative or qualitative analysis that assesses impact and probability of risk.Risk mitigation and planning involves analyzing risk response options (acceptance, avoidance, mitigation, or transference) and deciding how to approach and plan risk management activities.Risk allocation involves placing responsibility for a risk on a specific party or parties typically through a contract. The fundamental tenets of risk allocation include allocating risks to the party that is best able to manage them, allocating risks in alignment with project goals, and allocating risks to promote team alignment with customer-oriented performance goals.Risk monitoring and control is the capture, analysis, and reporting of project performance, usually as compared to the risk management plan. Risk monitoring and control assists in tracking and resolution.Types of RiskThe first step in an effective risk management program is to identify possible risks. Specific concerns related to night time work zones include poor visibility and work quality, staffing issues, unwanted noise and glare, decreased worker and driver alertness, impaired drivers, higher vehicle speeds, increased labour costs, materials and traffic control, and problems in logistics and supervision. These risks are categorized broadly as safety, cost/production and schedule, quality, organisational relationships, technical, construction, economic, and environmental.IlluminationNight time construction lighting arrangements have an impact on project safety, quality, cost, and productivity. One of the main rea sons illumination levels have a ironlike impact on the other aspects of night time construction is the fact that light influences human performance and alertness.Recommended lighting levelA major problem with night time work-zone lighting arrangements is the insufficiency of the lighting provided to perform the construction or maintenance task. The level of lighting needed for specific construction activities depends on factors related to the humans performing the activities, as well as factors relating to the task at hand and the environment in which it takes place. For example, optic ability is a human factor that is known to vary among workers. Therefore, lighting standards assume reasonable visual abilities that are considered to be normal, while giving some allowance for variations among individuals. This assumption allows for visual standards to be based mainly on the visual requirements of the specific tasks construction activities required (Shane J.S., 2012).Task Dependency Visual StandardRequired AccuracyThe higher the precision required in a task, the higher the level of illumination needed. Background ReflectionThe ability to visualize an target or a send depends on the contrast between that object and the background. Highly reflective backgrounds decrease the visibility of the target or object.Relative SpeedThe relative speed of the object/target or its observer is another factor directly affecting the level of lighting needed for the construction task.Faster moving objects or targets compel higher levels of illumination. Objective SpeedThe size of the target observed in construction tasks has an impact on the needed level of illumination for the task. The smaller the object, the higher the level of lighting needed.Seeing distanceThe distance between the observer and the target in each task is another determining factor in setting illumination levels. Larger distances necessitate higher levels of illumination.Table 2.1 Task-dependent visual standa rdsSources A Guidebook for Nighttime Construction Impacts on Safety, Quality, and Productivity.NuisancesSoundSound is postcode in motion as a pressure wave through the air produced by a vibrating body. A decibel (dB) is the basic sound level unit it denotes a ratio of intensity to a reference sound. Most sounds that humans are capable of hearing have a decibel range of 0 to 140. Zero dB, by international agreement, corresponds to an air pressure level of 20 micro-Pascals (in other words, the agreed-upon threshold of hearing). A whisper is about 30 dB, colloquial speech is about 60 dB, and 130 dB is the threshold of physical pain. Humans sense the intensity difference of one sound from another. A three-decibel neuter in noise level is a barely noticeable difference, while a 10-dB change is perceived subjectively as a doubling/halving in loudness (Shane J.S., 2012).NoiseNoise can seriously harm human health and interfere with peoples daily activities at school, at work, at home and during empty time. Though the vibrations diminish in strength with distance from the source, they can produce annoying or objectionable audible and feel able levels in buildings very close to construction sites.Rarely do vibrations reach levels that cause structural damage to buildings. However, minor cosmetic damages can occur at lower vibration levels and, in the case of old, fragile, or historical buildings, a danger of significant structural damage always exists.DustDuring the night, many households leave their windows open to take advantage of the cool night air. With urban night time construction projects bein g very close to peoples living space, dust can be a problem.Night time construction dust problems are accentuated by the lighting, which makes the particulate matter very visible. Fugitive dust may be generated by construction operations, and the contract specifications should require that the contractor prepare a dust control plan. In many cases, dust control is not a problem that is limited to night time activities therefore, air quality or dust control plans should be for all hours of the day or night (Shane J.S., 2012).

John Miltons Faith and Use of Literary Devices
joke Miltons Faith and Use of Literary DevicesMany of John Miltons poetry return religious subjects, as well as much of the literature during the Early Modern Period. Milton grew up a normal life, and attended school and universities. Afterwards Milton wed a woman who left him soon subsequently the marriage and the two were divorced. Later on, she came back and the two reconciled. In the later social classs of Milton lost many a(prenominal) another(prenominal) loved ones including the loose of his father, his father-in-law. Miltons eyesight grew worse, and by 1661 Milton had become blind (Jokinen). After losing his eyesight, Milton similarly lost his first wife, daughter, son, second wife, and another daughter (Jokinen). Through every last(predicate) of this, Milton kept his credence, and wrote many verse forms that illustrated that he had faith in God and dedicated many poems to his lost loved ones. The common literary devices and subjects that John Milton uses in enlight enment Lost, How in short Hath condemnation, and When I Consider How My Light is Spent leave a stronger representation of Miltons faith, and how through the tough life that Milton lived he remained a religious man. iodin of the well- cheatn poems that Milton wrote is Paradise Lost. In this epic poem, Milton uses many literary devices to illustrate his faith in God. In Paradise Lost, Milton uses vision, diction, and religious subjects to show the strong curse Milton retained throughout his life. Throughout Paradise Lost, Miltons use of vision, diction, and the subject of the epic poem represents Miltons strong faith. Paradise Lost also illustrates redemption. This was because Miltons faith reflected redemption, especially with his finds on divorce. Milton believed that divorce was ok certain applications. In the beginning of Book I, the poem picks up in the middle of a narrative where Satan had just travel from Heaven along with the band of angels. In Book 1, Satan states that Me preferring, His utmost power with adverse power opposed/ In dubious battle on the plains of Heavn/ And shook his throne (Milton, Paradise Lost 949). With this few lines Satan is informing his followers that Satan himself in one case clashed against God. With this clash against God, Satan once had a break of conquer God. Milton uses imagery in lines 102-105 of Paradise Lost to bring images of this mighty battle to the readers mind (Milton, Paradise Lost 949). Milton is trying to get people to infer battles that he once faced in his own life. Satan states in lines 258-262 of Paradise Lost that Here at least/ we shall be free th Almighty hath not built/ Here for his envy, give not drive us hence / Here we may persist secure, and in my choice/ To reign is worth ambition though in Hell (Milton, 953). Milton uses diction here to express Satans thinker that control in Hell is far better than adoration in Heaven, but this is all a lie that Satan tells his followers. Milton uses imag ery and diction in these lines to convey the evil that Satan beholds. Book I finally presents Satan as the defeater of his followers. In Book IX Milton has diminished Satan from a hero. When Satan objectiveizes the beauty that Earth beholds, Satan mourns because he has ruined his chances of sprightliness on Earth as Adam and Eve once did. Whenever Satan saw Eve, Satan becomes flabbergasted by Eves beauty. Whenever Satan starts to realize that beauty of the Earth, this seems to be a reminder to Milton that even though he had lost many things in life, that Milton should be thankful for what he pipe down had. Milton seems to use his diction to convey the idea that he should be happy with what he has, and not to lose faith or to do anything that he would regret later on in Miltons like. While Milton continued to write faithful poetry throughout his life, Milton seemed to have never lost faith, and to commit something that may had regretted later in his life. Later on in Paradise Lost , Milton expresses that Satan was invincible, and by the love of God, Satan was at least able to see the beauty in Adam and Eve. Milton uses imagery to visualise Satan as the commander of his demons, and then Satan proposes to build a palace called Pandemonium. In line 754 of Paradise Lost Milton uses the images of the trumpets sound that pack the air, which acts as a fanfare for Satan (Milton, 1014). These images create a picture of how great Satan was, and that no matter how big an evil Satan was, it still does not make you invincible to God. All throughout Paradise Lost, there are examples of how Milton uses his diction, imagery, and his religious subjects that exemplify the faith that Milton had to make it through his hard clock times.another(prenominal) poem by Milton is How currently Hath Time, which uses literary devices to convey Miltons strong faith in God. As with most of all of Miltons poetry, there are references to God, Heaven, and spirits. This sonnet is approxima tely when Milton was in his twenties and how he thought that he was not as blessed as other people his age were. In the first octet lines of the sonnet, Milton gives the reasons that he has to blame God and lose faith, but the sonnet is resolved in the last four lines. The diction and imagery that Milton uses in How in short Hath Time, illustrates that though Milton is depressed about how life has turned out to be at this young age, Milton still does not blame God. Even in the end of the poem in lines 9-14 of How Soon Hath Time Milton uses a turn and his diction to illustrate, that even in the end Milton is the same (Milton, How Soon Hath Time 942). In turn of the sonnet, Milton realizes that magical spell he does not have the life that he may want, in the end he will be on the same level as people less and more fortunate than him. This is what keeps Miltons faith he realizes that his short physical life is not worth worrying over, because as long as he keeps faith in God, the rew ard of heaven is for him as long as he keeps faith in God.Milton also uses imagery in How Soon Hath Time to convey Miltons strong sense of faith. Lines 1-3 of How Soon Hath Time How soon hath time the subtle thief of youth, /Stoln on his wing my three and twentieth twelvemonth/My hasting days fly on with full career, depicts how Milton is giving human traits to his time (Milton, 942). Milton is using imagery to express that someone stole his youth and that his 23rd year is stolen on a wing, and that his days are passing by at a fast pace. According to David Miller, Milton uses personification to convey the imagery that is created in the lines 1-3 of How Soon Hath Time (Miller, 3). Whenever the reader reads lines 1-3 of How Soon Hath Time, there is the image of a bird that has stolen Miltons youth, and finally the bird flies off with the rest of Miltons days (Milton, 942). This stealing of Miltons time also represents the people that Milton had lost throughout his life. Milton lost t wo wives, three children, which means that he felt that time he had with his lost ones went by so quick such as if a bird had came and swept them away. However, in the end of the sonnet, Milton uses a turn that shows even though that the bird has stolen his time he still keeps his faith in God, knowing that all is well and equal in the end in the Gods eye.Miltons use of literary devices in How Soon Hath Time illustrates that even through tribulations Milton still is a faithful man in God. Milton uses his diction to swear out create imagery that stimulates all the senses that convey to the reader on how Milton feels about his faith and his beliefs in God.Milton also wrote another poem that uses literary devices to show his strong faith called When I Consider How My Light is Spent. Milton wrote this sonnet after he had become completely blind. The main plot behind this sonnet is that even through the obstacles that Milton encountered, Milton still regained strength in his faith. Milt on used diction and imagery among other literary devices to convey that he had a strong faith that was unbroken by problems that he encountered.According to Russell Hillier, Milton uses an allegory with the bible to create imagery in When I Consider How My Light Is Spent (Hillier, 7). In line 11, the poem parallels the bible with Matthew 1130 with My yoke is promiscuous, and my burden is light (Milton, When I Consider How My Light Is Spent 944). This parallel with bible creates imagery by creating a sense of sight for Milton, as he is a blind man. It also allows the reader to gain more understanding of how the Milton feels about his self. Milton does not look at his blindness as a punishment from God, but just an easy burden. When the reader reads line 11 of the poem, an idea of how Milton feels about his blindness is gained. The reader gains an image of how and what Milton feels like, since becoming blind. Milton was not born blind, therefore he had a acute knowledge of what the world looked like and was able to use objects that he had seen and read before to create a poem that contains imagery to convey his idea of faith and being blind. In line 3, Milton refers to talents (Milton, When I Consider How My Light Is Spent 944). A talent in the book of Mathew is a monetary unit. However, in the poem, Milton uses a pun in his diction to create imagery to help convey the strong faith that Milton has. Miltons vision is consider a talent that he once had, but no longer does, and Milton conveys the idea that his eyesight is priceless. Also in line 10, Milton draws a reference from Job 222. With this reference to Job 222, Milton is stating that anyone can benefit from God, rather they are wealthy or poor or either blind or not blind. The diction that Milton uses in When I Consider How My Light Is Spent helps convey the strong sense of faith that Milton has, even though God blinded him. The words that Milton chose to write this sonnet help illustrate Miltons true fait h. In line 8, Milton uses the word patience (Milton, When I Consider How My Light Is Spent 944). Miltons use of the word patience helps convey the idea that one day, Milton will be rewarded with his eyesight that was once taken from him. One day when in Heaven all will perfect health, and Milton realizes that life is short, and that it will not be long before he has sight of his loved ones. When I consider How My Light is Spent is a poem like many others that Milton write, which contain many literary devices, and well as faithful subjects. Imagery was a big part of the Miltons poetry as it allowed and connected Milton back to the real word after he went completely blind. With large amounts of imagery, Milton seemed to get people to understand how he thought. Most of all the poetry wrote by Milton contains his point of view of his faith. The reason that a lot of Miltons poetry contained his faith may have been influenced from his father. According to Jonathan Rosen, while a child, Milt ons family was kicked out of the church due to Miltons father rejecting the Catholic faith in return for the acceptance of Protestantism (Rosen, 4). This taught Milton that if he believed something that he should tell everyone. This was unlike anyone during the time, since people of the time were punished for their beliefs, but Milton wanted to let everyone know how he felt about his faith. According to Myron Taylor, Milton was one of the first poets or writers to start expressing his license of speech and religion in the early days, when this type of freedom was unheard of (Taylor, 2). Milton felt so strong about his faith that he thought that it was worth every bit of his life to let everyone know how he felt. All throughout Miltons poetry the reoccurrence of god, religion, and faith always seems to appear. Milton uses many methods to convey his thoughts of his faith, which include numerous literary devices, themes, and subjects that allow the readers become informed of Miltons fa ith.Works CitedMiller, David. Alien Hand Syndrome: Causes and Effects
Alien Hand Syndrome Ca utilises and EffectsNia HelyarWhat is Alien Hand Syndrome and why does it occur? Discuss in relation to one or more trip studies.Alien pass syndrome is an in callittent involuntary disorder whereby the hand acts of its own free bequeath. However, outsider hand syndrome is not consistently or but defined. Alien hand syndrome describes complex, goal-directed activity in one hand that is not voluntarily initiated by the individual but is well executed (Mark, 2007). This syndrome is an exceedingly puzzling phenomenon experienced by brain-damaged forbearings whereby their limb performs purposeful actions without the intention of the patient (Biran, et al., 2006). The patient is futile to explain the exact source of movement from the hand and whitethorn actually consider the hand to have a mind of its own (Mark, 2007).It is caused by lesions to the frontal lobes and corpus callosum (Banks et al., 1989) and generally follows acute focal noetic injury. The mo st(prenominal) common causes are cerebral hemispheric stroke, severe brain damage or damage to the corpus callosum much(prenominal) as in surgery, which is used to care severe epilepsy. The corpus callosum connects the two hemispheres, therefore surgery to this area of the brain kindle lead there to be less or no intercourse between the hemispheres which can lead to limbs acting of their own accord. Alien hand syndrome can also be seen in patients who suffer from a variety of degenerative, dementing cerebral disorders such as Alzheimers (Mark, 2007). Due to the numerous different causes of extraneous hand syndrome there are many variations of the condition. Therefore, it has been that alien hand syndrome is an umbrella term for a heterogeneous set of symptoms (Chokar et al., 2014).There have been reports of patients who were unable to stop their alien hand from grabbing and seizing nearby objects without any willing from their body (Kumral, 2001). This can be seen by the study of patient JC, a 56 year old man who had suffered from a left hemispheric stroke, with damage extending to the corpus callosum. quaternion weeks after his stroke he complained of peculiar un applyled movements of his hand. His hand would do things as though it has a mind of its own such as playing with light switches, grasping and holding things. In many situations the patient found themselves in the situation where the right wing hand opposed the left hand without the patient choosing to do so. Furthermore, the alien hand caused the patient difficulty in eating because of the opposing behaviour of the right and left hand (Biran, Giovannetti, Buxbaum, Chatterjee 2006).Often, a patient has to use their other willing hand to prise open their fingers and release the object which the alien hand has grasped (Kumral, 2001). Patients observe and experience their own limbs carrying out purposeful behaviours everyplace which they have no or very little control. In one exercise it was no ted that a patient had picked up a pencil and begun scribbling with the right hand. She indicated she had not initiated the action with the right arm, she experienced a feeling of dissociation from the actions of the right arm, stating that it will not do what I want it to do (Goldberg et al.1981).This alien limb may disrupt movements of the other limb that is actually responding to the intentions of the patient (Akelaitis, 1944-45). Patients can experience their limbs acting without being guided by their own will (Bogen, 1993, fisher, 2000). Bogen, J. E. (1993) found his alien hand undoing the buttons of his shirt even as his healthy limb tried to button the shirt. The errant limb is known to not even rest during sleep in some cases and patients with alien hand syndrome have woken up to find their alien limbs choking them (Banks et al, 1989). In one case the patients left hand would tenaciously grope for and grasp any nearby object, pick and pull at her clothes, and even grasp her pharynx during sleep . . . . She slept with the arm tied to prevent nocturnal misbehaviour. However, she never denied that her hand belonged to her (Banks et al. 1989). This is an important part of this syndrome that the patient does not deny responsibility for the hand or the behaviour that it carries out.Two types of behaviour are displayed with this syndrome, repetitive involuntary grasping and unilateral goal-directed limb behaviour. Patients clearly recognize that there is a deviation between what the hand is doing and their desired actions. The patients are upset by the actions of the hand and will often try to prevent it from moving by grasping it securely with the other hand (Frith, 2000). MP was a patient who had an operation to repair a ruptured aneurysm of the anterior communication artery. Within two years she was unable to live independently with her family due to the way in which the alien hand syndrome was affecting her life (Sala, 1998).An alien hand sufferer can feel usual sensation in the hand, but believes that the hand, while still part of their body, behaves in a manner that is totally distinct from them. They feel that they have no control over the movements of their alien hand but that, instead, the hand has the capability of acting independent of their conscious control. Alien hands can perform complex acts such as removing clothing which can be seen from examples above. Sometimes the sufferer will not be aware of what the hand is doing until it is brought to his or her attention. Patients frequently report astonishment and frustration at these errant limbs.Overall, alien hand syndrome is difficult to explain as there are many different causes and symptoms that can be depict as this condition. However, one symptom that is apparent throughout the many case studies is that the alien hand acts against the willing of the patient. The condition is extremely complex and even though many causes are symptoms are known there is still a lot to learn about it. Further research is therefore required.Word work out 987ReferencesAkelaitis, A. (19441945). Studies on the corpus callosum. IV. The Search for the Meaning of Existence :: Philosophy Essays
The Search for the Meaning of ExistenceDaffodil bulbs instead of balls St bed from the sockets of the eyes from Whispers of Immortality We live and accordingly we die. Its scary, the death part, and the living part is quite amazing. There is a great dichotomy surrounding our public. One minute we are here, another we are gone. What is existence? What is the purpose of existence? The big metaphysical question has my interest. We grasp to understand it all but it evades us. This magnificent universe has not answered our questions. Some people guess that our existence is a divine destiny, a creation of God, or of some purposive energy. Others say that the greatest substance of life is to share love. These people commit that life has meaning Actually has it I grew up thinking that both of these meanings of life were true. There was a universal energy of good, always able to outmatch bad, and love was the greatest value of all. I believed that my life would catch meaning if I contr ibuted to the good and loving energy in the world. Will my life have much meaning if I am a good loving person than an uninterested loner person? Will my life be more valuable to the universe? Everyone would like to have meaning in their life, even those of us who are becoming cynical to meaning as an absolute. We all would be more comfortable if we knew of some transcendent value to our existence that surpasses life itself, into death. We do not know of this transcendence though. Society in the 21st atomic number 6 is on shaky foundations. We have tossed religious proclamations out the window and embraced science as the ultimate authority. Problem is, science is not providing metaphysical answers so we are out there in space floating around aimlesslyCurrently, through the last decade or so, after seeing the substantial judiciousness of scientific observations supporting Darwinian evolution, I begin to see another possible meaning of meaning, and hence, a new meaning of life. Bew are Darwins treacherous idea I now see meaning, as an emergent process of evolved human consciousness that functions as an environment analyst. I see both meaning and consciousness as aftereffects of physical processes in the brain and nervous system. Sounds pretty drab and desolate, huh? Or exciting, depending on who you are, where you are, and what time it is.

Making the World a Better Place with My Communications Degree Essay
Various people throughout my educational pursuit hold asked me, What can you do with a degree in Communications? My answer is, I can do many things but mostly I pauperism to deliver messages in found to help others. I am a networker by nature and I want to use that skill in order to help initiate overbearing change. In order to capitalize on my innate persuasive talents, I feel I must strive to spill the beans to people and not at people. Anyone can talk but a true communicator can extract information and talent from others and shed a positive light on an issue or a cause. I want to be that communicator. The historical progress of communication has gone from face-to-face grunts, groans and body language, to subvert paintings, to print media and now to genial media whereby you can reach virtually anyone in the world. What has not changed be key points, first you must get the other society to hear your message, secondly the message must be received and interpreted and there mu st be a form of feedback and participation for the message to be successful. I remember my first State College Communication epiphany was realizing that to be a good communicator, you must be a good listener. Communication, particularly in the social media age is a continuous loop of realization that the sender of a message is simultaneously a receiver of message. Without this sender/receiver loop, a somebody is not communicating with another. When I think of communication, I look to Maslows hierarchy of Needs for answers. Abraham Maslow developed a model presenting human needs showtime with the most basic and advancing to those that motivate and foster personal development. The stages are biological and physical, Safety, Belonging and love, Esteem, and lastly Self-actualizat... ...tions and 9) Interaction posture-otherwise known as the ability to reply to others in a descriptive, nonevaluative and nonjudgmental manner (Lustig & Koester, 2010).Armed with the tools I obtained at State College, I am ready to go out into this complex and raise world to be a vessel for social change and economic development. I will assist start-up companies as well as small companies that are struggling to enter social media promotion. As a former non-profit director and volunteer, I will extend my volunteer work to include cultural competencies and strategies to gain ground health, prosperity and cultural tolerance.
